The River School is
a small private elementary school located in historic Nyack, New York.
Our aim for our students is to become self-disciplined, self-motivated,
and self-confident learners, reaching their fullest potential in a
supportive, nurturing environment. We are very proud of our
child-centered program where:

provide a caring family-like environment that fosters self-esteem and
self-concept;

value a life-long love of learning and provide our children with a
strong academic, social, and artistic foundation from which they can
continue to grow and learn;

offer an integrated, multi-cultural educational experience in keeping
with the standards required by New York State while recognizing the
multiple learning styles and intelligences of our students;

dedicated and talented certified classroom teachers and specialists
cooperatively synthesize a well-rounded academically challenging core
curriculum that is enriched by a program of weekly special classes.

feel strongly—as did Maria Montessori—that the “tender age” is the time
to begin developing future stewards of Planet Earth who will hopefully
behave in a caring and responsible manner towards the natural world. We
are very committed to – Hurt No Living Thing—our
environmental program.
